If there’s an Old Testament prophet that most faithfully and effectively conveys the identity, nature, and mission of Jesus it is Isaiah. In this passage Matthew draws on Isaiah to paint an entire portrait of Christ. Jesus is Servant Son of God, He’s the bearer of the Spirit, and He’s the proclaimer of God’s saving and judging justice. His identity and mission are certainly draws for people, but it is Jesus’s quiet and gentle way of working with a penchant for tending to the broken that compels people to come to Him.
