When the story of Israel stops in the OT, it isn’t really complete. There remain all these unresolved threads, promises in the story of God. We’re left with a sense of waiting, anticipation, and disappointment. Enter Jesus of Nazareth. The Gospel writers present Jesus as the fulfillment of all that Israel longed for and as the fulfillment of what humanity was meant for. In Jesus, God will act to bring about a new Exodus, where God will set his people free from sin, evil, and death. He will restore humanity’s capacity to image Him to the world, and He will dwell with His people. The good news that Jesus brings is the culmination of God’s unfolding story in our world.
