In Matthew 22, Jesus is confronted with a series of questions, the last of which essentially asks the “deep question” of life: What is our purpose? What should I spend my life pursuing? His answer is surprising and encouraging. Contrary to common Western assumptions about love, we are not at the centre; God is at the centre of love, and He invites you into it. He invites us to respond to His love by loving Him and our neighbours in return.
