the time is now
During this unprecedented time we are sensing an invitation to pray and fast for the church, our cities and world. Cascades will be partnering in prayer with local churches around Metro Vancouver. Our desire is to have people praying day and night. If you don’t live in Metro Vancouver that’s fine– join us in praying! To do this we’ve created an online Daily Prayer Sign Up.
If you are new to fasting or looking for some clarity on it, our friend Pastor Brett Landry at Christ City Church has written a brief blog on what fasting is and how we should fast.
How will it work?
- Time slots are divided into three “periods” a day: morning, afternoon, and evening. These periods can be as short as fifteen minutes and as long as you would like. They are intentionally vague and flexible to accommodate varying schedules. Simply write the names of those who will be praying in the empty space.
- Our aim is to have all of the periods filled before we begin “doubling-up” with multiple people and groups in a period.
- Below is a list of what you can be praying for, but feel free to pray for people and items beyond what’s listed below.
- If, coming out of your time of prayer, you have a word of encouragement, exhortation, etc. please do not hesitate to share it with us. You can email us.
Daily Prayer Items
The following is meant as a springboard for you as you pray.
Monday – Medical field
Father, give strength and resilience to all health care professionals across our land. Give researchers and medical professionals wisdom to find the cure for Coronavirus. Protect their families from the virus. Give them a spirit of courage and compassion as they serve patients.
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32: 17
Tuesday – Leaders
Father, please give wisdom to all leaders in all governments, public areas, and the body of Christ. Give insight to leaders in how to allocate resources to prevent the spread of the virus, help the vulnerable, and bring about your kingdom.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 Tim. 2:1-2
Wednesday – Sovereign
Lord, you are seated on an unshakeable throne. “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all in it.” Psalm 24:1. We believe that our land is held together in Christ. Grant us the power to be your faithful people in this challenging time.
“For in him all things were created… and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:16a; 17b
Thursday – Receive His Peace
Father, we throw all of our worries and anxieties on you.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 .
Please comfort all the people who have experienced great loss. Give wisdom to employers who have to make challenging decisions and employees peace regarding their future.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do no let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
Friday – Hope and Help
Father, you are our provider, protector, and hope. Fill us with your presence.
“The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:18
Bring help and healing to the sick and infected. Contain the spreading of COVID19.
Saturday – Mercy
We ask you Lord for mercy on our nation.
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23.
Father, protect those suffering with chronic disease, compromised immune systems, and the elderly. Have mercy on the lives of the poor and destitute.
Sunday – Church Leaders
Father, let your Spirit move the heart’s of all Metro Vancouver’s church leaders towards wisdom and discernment.
“The Lord controls rulers, just as he determines the course of rivers.” Proverbs 21:1.
Give vision and power for Jesus followers to care for the needy.
